“Simple” and “Sophistication” may sound like two contradictory words. However, the two words are wonderfully apt when describing Les Classiques Date.
On one hand, simplicity is delivered by three hands, one date. It’s that simple, or, so it may seem at first. However, sophistication is granted by the distilled creation of the handsome Les Classiques Date. Each element has been the subject of prolonged consideration. In several instances seemingly small details when viewed in isolation, actually influence the whole appearance of the chosen model when combined. The would-be wearer has a vast choice of variants to meet their specific desires. The 38mm case diameter is restrained in character exhibiting decorum and avoiding excessive flamboyance. Glancing at the rear of the case, the wearer is reminded of the fine Swiss automatic Calibre ML115 that beats within (ML155 on gold execution). The rhodium-plated movement is traditionally decorated with perlage and Côtes de Genève motif.
In 2013, Maurice Lacroix provoked discussion and incredulity with the launch of its Masterpiece Mysterious Seconds. It answered questions others failed to ask. The brand that once queried, “Why not a square wheel?”, now enquired, “Does time have to be circular?”. The Masterpiece Mysterious Seconds depicts time in a linear form. A twin-tipped seconds hand, baton-like in form, traverses a solid disc, appearing to float and move in an almost balletic motion. Each tip of the seconds hand waits in turn to share the responsibility for imparting time. The Mysterious Seconds reveals some of its micro-mechanics housed within the case, courtesy of an open-worked area of the dial. Hour and minute hands are located off-centre at 2 o’clock. However, by contrast, the mystique of the model is bestowed by its thought-provoking seconds display. There appears to be no physical connection between the novel seconds hand and the movement beneath.
In the past major discoveries have been made by observing life from a different perspective, questioning all seemingly given facts and, at times, challenging convention with creative genius. This is a culture familiar to Maurice Lacroix. The Swiss company has repeatedly sought to conceive interesting timepieces which depict time in thought-provoking ways. Maurice Lacroix has a passion for progress and continually seeks ground-breaking ideas to charm and delight. Its latest model, the Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Gravity, is one of the first timepieces to feature an all-silicon assortment. Developed in-house by this inventive watch brand, it is the latest example of the company’s forward thinking approach to watchmaking.
